Christy was born in Inverkeithing Fife in 1965 and was a founding member of Inverkeithing and District Pipe Band in 1974. He developed as a piper with the band, winning many Major Championships in Grades 3 and 4, culminating in a winners medal at the World Championships in 1985. 1986 saw Christy move up to Grade 1 with Polkemmet and after a short spell there he withdrew from the pipe band scene to concentrate on Uilleann Piping. In 1991 the lure of St Laurence O’Toole Pipe Band in Dublin was too much so he joined up with his wife Sharon and had his most enjoyable spell in Pipe Bands. Pipe Major of the O’Tooles Terry Tully had a huge influence on his playing which also shines through in his Uilleann Piping.
Currently, Christy is Pipe Major of the ‘Vale Novice Juveniles and will also help Sharon in Grade 3.
