Sharon

Sharon was born in Pitlochry in 1967.  Her maiden name is Walker, a family name associated with the area for generations.  Her Great Grandfather, James(Crofty) Walker, was a founding member of the Vale of Atholl Pipe Band in 1906.

Sharon started learning in the Vale of Atholl under initial instruction from ex Vale Pipe Major Alan Cameron in 1977. Tuition was continued by Pipe Major Ian Duncan and 1979 saw her first competing year with the band, winning every Major Championship in Grade 3. She continued her success with the Vale until 1991, winning many prizes including major championships in Grade 1.  This period also saw many solo successes in Piobaireachd and light music.

While playing in Grade1, at the age of seventeen, she became Pipe Major of the Juvenile Band leading them to many successes in competition.

In 1992 Sharon left the Vale and moved on to play with St. Laurence O’Toole Pipe Band from Dublin, her mothers home town.

After a fantastic period with the O’Tooles Sharon left to start a family with the arrival of Siobhan in 1995 and Roisin in 1998.

Back in action, Sharon is now once again a Pipe Major with the Vale taking the Juvenile Band into Grade 3
