The Drummonds are an ancient and illustrious family, holding lands and offices of state in Perthshire from the 13th Century. Two Drummond girls have married Kings of Scots. In 1362 Margaret Drummond married King David II and in 1390 Annabella Drummond married King Robert III.
They became strong Jacobites in 1715 and 1745 and thus served Prince Charles Edward Stuart with Lord George Murray.
From 1445 onwards there were several marriages between the Drummonds and the Murrays, creating a link which lasts into modern times. Currently there are Drummonds serving as officers in The Atholl Highlanders - The Duke of Atholl’s private army.
The tartan that the band wears is the “Modern Drummond of Perth” woven by “The House of Edgar” in Perth.
